the father of television and a source of pride for Hamamatsu.
Kenjiro Takayanagi created the world's first electronic television.
From the moment he first displayed the Japanese character "イ" on a cathode ray tube through until today, television has been the central medium of the information society.
Takayanagi Memorial Hall shows the ripple effect of his achievements and inventions on society.
For example, there are a variety of exhibits that allow you to see the history of television and learn about the construction of cathode ray tubes and televisions. In addition, the carefully prepared Fujioka Collection of early cathode ray tubes and televisions are almost all in working order. See with your own eyes and experience the development and history of television from wavering black and white images to the latest organic LED televisions.
There is also a corner displaying the number one manufacturers and products in the world.
You can also see the actual photo multiplier tube from Hamamatsu Photonics who supported Masatoshi Koshiba, winner of the 2002 Nobel Prize in physics, and guided him to successfully observe neutrinos. Many of the world's best technologies and products that Japan takes pride in came from Hamamatsu.
There are also explanations and displays of new and emerging technologies being researched at the university in the search for yet another world's best.
Imagine the ever expanding technology and future at the Takayanagi Memorial Hall.
Exhibits about Mr. Takayanagi / Experiment and Experience Corner
Mr. Takayanagi's achievements are explained through exhibits such as panels. In addition, you can learn about the inner workings of televisions and the principles behind them with an experimental electronic light emitter, an experimental Nipov disk laser television and a machine for experiencing experiments with color matching.
The Fujioka Collection
A priceless collection including the first color television produced in Japan, and everything from black and white to organic LED televisions.
That they can still display modern television programs is astounding.
