Experience the Beauty and Power Behind Traditional Japanese Music in Kabuki

Hamamatsu City in Shizuoka Prefecture is known as the "City of Music," home to world-famous musical instrument manufacturers such as Yamaha, Kawai, and Roland. Here in Hamamatsu, we invite you to enjoy a special hands-on program that introduces you to traditional Japanese music.
In this experience, you will explore the world of kotsuzumi (small hand drums) and taiko drums, instruments used in Kabuki theater, Japanese dance, and even the Hamamatsu Festival.
You will actually hold the instruments yourself and learn basic techniques such as how to hold and strike them, as well as how to read simple musical notation. Using these skills, you'll get the opportunity to perform the well-known Japanese melody "Sakura Sakura," with participants stepping onto a small stage at the end to give a short performance.
You'll also have the opportunity to wear a traditional kimono or festival hantencoat and take commemorative photos.
The venue is conveniently located about 15 minutes from JR Hamamatsu Station (a stop on the Tokaido Shinkansen) making it easy to add to your trip itinerary.
