Where fabric sellers who value old fashioned textures are plentiful

Japan, Hamamatsu, located in the Enshu region, has long daylight hours and the most abundant clear weather in Japan. Furthermore, it has a warm climate and has held nationwide fame for cotton production since the mid-Edo period. In 1898 Sakichi Toyoda (who later founded Toyota Motors) invented a narrow-width power loom. Thereafter, Michio Suzuki (who later founded Suzuki Motors) invented the Suzuki Loom. Weaving cotton into fabric became a large industry in Enshu, with Hamamatsu at its core. Although production has recently declined due to pressure from cheap raw goods from overseas, it is still the top place in the country for fabrics like velveteen and corduroy, as well as domestic yukata.By taking advantage of the traditional textures made with techniques that have been cultivated for a long time, Hamamatsu's unique textiles are again being revived, and activities with the purpose of continuing these traditions, such as product development and event participation, are going strong.
It is because Hamamatsu is such a place, that it is dotted with great numbers of genial fabric sellers with many lovely products. There are also stores selling handmade crafts and the like, so please come give the nearby shops a look.
